I wonder if anyone will notice I've made some small adjustment to existing pages since Day One. I'll continue to make more for a while. I am of the mind, ideal website development is an iterative process.

I need to be careful not to get bogged down by perfectionism. Indecisiveness can be crippling. If I see something obvious which can be improved easily, I'll change it. Certain areas could use more content as well. However, I don't need to expend energy towards making the site anything more than a "glorified business card," for now.

Today's agenda?

Let 'em Know!

Social media integration is really important these days. Many businesses benefit by establishing a web presence on various social media sites. I won't know which ones will give me the most benefit. My best guess is Facebook and Instagram will offer me the most return for my efforts as a performer, and instructor, while LinkedIn may offer me more opportunities as a web developer and programmer.

I'll start with more commonly used services, and experiment with more later.

Social Media Accounts

FYI, the words "come connect" seems to be a good choice when asking people to follow and friend.

Bug Fixes

While integrating my social media accounts with my website, I noticed a few buggy behaviors with Squarespaces default environment. I'll list them, and my solutions.

Before I do, I'll share this handy little tool with you: Facebook Sharing Debugger

This tool let's you see the information that is used when your website content is shared on Facebook. If you notice something is wrong when trying to share a page on your website, you may notice Facebook won't update the URL meta data related to whatever page you share after you've updated your site page. If you hit the "Scrape Again" button to refresh Facebook's cached meta data for your site page. To prompt Facebook to reset it's page cache for multiple pages, use the "Bulk Invalidator" feature.

Now then, onto problems and solutions...

Header Meta Image Tags Pointing to Wrong Thumbnail Image

Problem: Header meta image tags on Pages points to a global "Social Sharing Logo", but not to the content Thumbnail Image associated with each individual page. The ideal behavior works fine on Blog entries. For my intentions, this bug was only a problem on my Service: Web Development page.

Solution: Add the following code to the Page Header Code Injection, and be sure to replace "ReplaceWithPageURL" with the full URL of the page you're working on.

<!-- thumbnail preview -->
<meta property="og:image" content="ReplaceWithPageURL?format=1000w"/>
<meta itemprop="thumbnailUrl" content="ReplaceWithPageURL?format=1000w"/>
<link rel="image_src" href="ReplaceWithPageURL?format=1000w" />
<meta itemprop="image" content="ReplaceWithPageURL?format=1000w"/>
<meta name="twitter:image" content="ReplaceWithPageURL?format=1000w"/>
<!-- end thumbnail preview -->
